On October 3, 2025, in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, a symposium was held to mark the 75th anniversary of China-Indonesia diplomatic relations. During the event, the School of International Relations/Research School of Southeast Asian Studies at Xiamen University and the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Gadjah Mada University signed an agreement to establish a Joint Research Center on China-Indonesia Relations. The signing was attended by Professor Gao Yanjie, Dean of Xiamen University's school, and Professor Wawan Mas'udi, Dean of Gadjah Mada University's faculty.
The agreement aims to deepen regional and country studies through academic exchanges, collaborative research, and faculty-student visits. This center is the third overseas workstation set up by Xiamen University's school, after those in Malaysia and Laos, enhancing academic connectivity in Southeast Asia.
Professor Gao Yanjie stated that the center would serve as a key node for academic collaboration, while Professor Wawan Mas'udi highlighted its role in fostering mutual understanding and regional development. The initiative is expected to boost practical cooperation under the China-Indonesia partnership framework.
