On the afternoon of June 30, 2025, a faculty-student delegation from the Department of International Relations at Seoul National University of Education visited the School of International Relations/Research School for Southeast Asian Studies at Xiamen University. The delegation was led by Professors Kim Seokwoo and Lim Sunghack, comprising 3 faculty members and 12 students. The event focused on academic exchanges, particularly on topics like triangular relations between China, the United States, and Southeast Asia, aiming to enhance mutual understanding and foster future collaboration.

Associate Professor Zhang Miao, Vice Dean of the School, presided over the meeting and extended a warm welcome to the delegation. She introduced Xiamen University, highlighting its founding by patriotic overseas Chinese leader Chen Jiageng in 1921, its global mission, and international partnerships. Subsequently, Zhang presented the School's history, faculty structure, and academic programs, emphasizing its trilateral approach of teaching, research, and think-tank functions. The delegation expressed appreciation for the School's rich academic heritage and international expertise.

Associate Professor Wang Zhaohui then engaged in an in-depth discussion on "Sino-US Competition in Southeast Asia", analyzing how ASEAN countries pursue strategic autonomy amid great power rivalry. Professor Kim shared insights, providing new perspectives on East Asia-Southeast Asia interactions. Assistant Professor Jin Xiangdong communicated in Korean, facilitating smoother exchanges. Students from both sides participated in a Q&A session, raising questions about regional dynamics, which were addressed by Wang and Zhang. The event concluded with an exchange of gifts, symbolizing the friendly ties between the institutions.

This academic exchange deepened the understanding between Xiamen University and Seoul National University of Education, laying a solid foundation for future cooperation in Southeast Asian studies and related social science fields. It is expected to promote further joint research and academic exchanges within the East Asian scholarly community.
