On April 15, 2018, the Sino-Indonesian Youth Exchange Tour Project initiated by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Fujian Provincial Government and the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia officially set sail from Xiamen. Members of the Indonesian side include Indonesian government officials, scholars, “internet celebrity” and journalists, as well as 20 young Indonesians selected from different levels. In 16 days, Chinese and Indonesian youth visited four universities in Fujian and Indonesia, as well as relevant government academic organizations, in order to promote youth exchanges, and deepen feelings between the two countries.
During their visit to Indonesia, the young people of both sides received friendly hospitality from the Presidential Palace of Indonesia, the Indonesian Parliament and the provincial government of Central Java. They discussed issues concerning bilateral relations and the development of Indonesia's economic and social conditions. At “The Dialogue with Future Leaders”, Dino Patti Djalar, founder of Indonesian Foreign Policy Association(FPCI), former Indonesian ambassador to the United States and spokesman for the President, stressed that it was only through personal experience that one can understand what the other country was thinking and that one cannot let the stereotype of others influence his participation in diplomacy. The delegation also visited famous Indonesian universities such as the University of Indonesia, Kachamada University, Mohamudia University and Hassanudine University, and attended lectures on China-Indonesia diplomacy and the history of the two countries.
