

In the afternoon of October 14, 2016, Mr. Fu Xinwei (Mr. Julius Caesar Aragon Flores), the Consul General of the Philippines Consulate in Xiamen, visited Research School for Southeast Asian Studies, Xiamen University and presented books on Philippines research and ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) studies. Professor Shi Xueqin, Deputy Dean of Research School for Southeast Asian Studies (hereafter “the School”), chaired the book giving ceremony. Professor Nie Dening, Associate Professor Lin Mei, Associate Professor Fang Hao, Zhang Changhong, Director of the libraryalso attended the ceremony.
At the beginning of the ceremony, Shi Xueqin, on behalf of the School, warmly welcomed the visit by the Consul General, and highly praised the positive efforts made by the Consul General for promoting the education and cultural exchanges between China and Philippines. The Consul General thanked the welcome ceremony of the School.
The Consul General delivered a speech afterwards. He talked about the importance of education and cultural exchanges between Philippines and China and was pleased to see the achievements of the School in the study of Southeast Asia, especially in the field of Philippines studies. He expressed his deep impression on the rich collection of Southeast Asian and overseas Chinese research resources in the School when he visited it in early October 2014. This visit was on behalf of the Philippines Consulate in Xiamen to present a professional books on the history, culture and art of Philippines to the School Library, in hope for helping the School make more achievements in the field of Southeast Asian research. Deputy Dean Shi Xueqin thanked the Consul General for his books and his promotion of the Philippines study of the School. Finally, the two sides exchanged gifts, and took part in a group photo of all the teachers and students.
