Education

Bachelor, History Department of Xiamen University(1987-1991), Master, Institute of Nanyang, Xiamen University (1991-1994); Phd, School for Southeast Asian Studies (1999-2004).

Work Experience

Dr. SHI Xueqin has been devoted herself to Southeast Asia studies with special interest in history, culture, religion and society studies.  She was visiting scholar sponsored by Asia Fellow Scholarship (AFS) in the University of the Philippines. (2002.11-2003.7) She also was visiting fellow at several prestigious universities and institutes including NIDA (National institute for Development and Administration, Thailand, 2004.7-2004.8), History department of Leiden University of Netherland, (2005.6-2005.8), History Department of the University of Gadjah Mada of Indonesia (2005.12) as well as Chinese Department in National University of Singapore. (2006.7), IIAS, Leiden(2019.3). She had taken the position of Vice Director of Institute for Malaysia Studies from 2008-2014. Since 2013, as the vice dean of the School for Southeast Asian Stueis, she has promoted academic cooperation with several universities in Indonesia and jointly established the International Conference on Chinese Indonesian Studies (ICCIS). She was appointed as Chinese director of Confucius Institute at the University of the Philippines.(2023.2-2025.1).Currently she is holding the position of director of the Center for the Philippine Studies at the School for Southeast Asian Studies.

Teaching

She has taught several programs for undergraduate student and graduate student such as Religion and International politics, History of Chinese Diaspora in Southeast Asia; Religion and society of Southeast Asia; Politics and Diplomacy of South Asian (India); History, Culture and Society in Southeast Asian Region, Philippine Studies.

Since 1999-2020, she has published roughly 50 academic articles and as well as 10 translations on Southeast Asian history/culture/society (focusing on Philippines, Indonesia) and Southeast Asian Ethnic Chinese studies as well as China-ASEAN relations in Chinese’s Journal and International Journal.

Awards and Honors

Xiamen municipality social science award second prize for the paper(2005), second prize for the book (2023).
