Today we pay tribute to perhaps the most beloved President in the history of our nation, President Ramon Magsaysay on his 103rd birth anniversary. It is a fitting testament to Magsaysay's character that these awards have become known as the Nobel Prize of Asia. We close the first decade of the 21st century this year. As we pause to reflect on how far we have gone, we have the heights and depths of humankind to consider. Will this, our century, be as mixed as the 20th century was? Chairman's Remarks in the RM 2010 Awards
As it has been since 1958, each year's combination of awardees, along with the events affecting Asian countries at the time, lends a particular complexion and significance to the Ramon Magsaysay Awards. As such, our 2010 event is uniquely marked.There is an oft-quoted phrase from Charles Dicken's A Tale of Two Cities: "It was the best of times; it was the worst of times..."
