Jakarta, 9 March 2011
Over 400 photos of ASEAN’s and Pakistan’s peoples, landscapes and other aesthetic dimensions of everyday life were unveiled at the ASEAN Secretariat yesterday. The exhibition of the theme “Lens Mirror – Unity in Our Diversity” is the most extensive photo exhibition ever hosted by the Secretariat.
Co-organised by the ASEAN Secretariat and the Embassy of Pakistan in Indonesia, the exhibition is open to the public until 15 March 2011.
The Secretary-General of ASEAN, Dr Surin Pitsuwan, said the exhibition symbolised ASEAN and Pakistan’s “mutual recognition of artistic appreciation and the importance of people to people contact.” The project, he added, would strengthen ASEAN-Pakistan relations and allow people to appreciate and enjoy the way and meaning of life both have to offer.
Meanwhile, the Ambassador of Pakistan to ASEAN, Mr Sanaullah, said he hoped the exhibition would cultivate more ASEAN-Pakistan projects in cultural exchange and tourism.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition was attended by, among others, Ambassadors to ASEAN, members of diplomatic corps, cultural organisations, academia – including students – media and other guests.
