Viet Nam

Viet Nam was among the founding members of the ADB in 1966, but operations were suspended between 1979 and 1992, before resuming again in 1993. Cumulative assistance since ADB resumed its operations in Viet Nam includes 99 sovereign loans totaling $8.00 billion, 245 technical assistance grant projects amounting to $188.4 million, and 24 other grant projects totaling $139.1 million. Viet Nam is involved in a number of regional technical assistance projects for the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

Stable Growth Consolidating - ADB Raises Viet Nam's Economic Forecast

Viet Nam has successfully exited from the economic stimulus measures in response to the global economic crisis in 2008-2009 to the policies aiming at stable growth. In order to prepare for the next ten year period as a new Middle Income Country, however, Viet Nam needs to be cautious in maintaining macroeconomic stability and effectively communicating such a policy stance to the public while accelerating reforms, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) said in the Asian Development Outlook 2010 Update (ADO Update) launched today.

ADO Update increased its growth forecast for 2010 from 6.5% to 6.7%, and for 2011 from 6.8% to 7.0% while lowering the inflation projection in 2010 to 8.5% and 2011 to 7.5%, respectively.
