On 8 August 2006, ASEAN will celebrate its 39th Anniversary. Across the region, various activities have been planned on and around ASEAN Day.

  • 4-7 Aug: ASEAN Quiz on the National Broadcasting Network, Philippines

  • 7 Aug: Media Forum on ASEAN, Philippines

  • 7-8 Aug: Commemorative Activities in Primary and Secondary Schools, Singapore

  • 7-15 Aug: ASEAN Film Festival, Singapore

  • 7 Aug: Prize Giving Ceremony for the ASEAN Day Art and Essay Competition, Singapore

  • 8 Aug: 2006 ASEAN Lecture delivered by the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

  • 8 Aug: ASEAN Day Feature in The New Straits Times, Malaysia

  • 8 Aug: ASEAN Quiz for High School Students, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thailand

  • 8 Aug: TV and Radio address by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Thailand

  • 8 Aug: Special feature stories on ASEAN in local media, Thailand

  • 8 Aug: Opening Ceremony of the 39th ASEAN Day by the President of the Philippines, Malacanang, Manila

  • 10-13 Aug: ASEAN Film Festival, Mandaluyong City, Philippines

  • 11,15,17,18 and 22 Aug: Campus Tour of Five Schools, Philippines

  • 17 Aug: ASEAN Lecture Series at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), Philippines

  • Sept - Nov 2006: ASEAN Food Fiesta, Singapore Institute of International Affairs, Singapore

(This listing will be updated periodically.)

The theme “ASEAN and Young People”, in recognition that Southeast Asians under the age of thirty make up sixty percent of ASEAN’s population and have an important role in ASEAN’s community-building efforts. In the coming months, greater effort will be made to engage the youth and raise their awareness and interest in ASEAN.
