Joint ASEAN-China Symphony Orchestra

Staged in front of the Angkor Wat, a spectacular performance by the fifty-two strong symphony orchestra comprising of musicians from ASEAN and China resounded through the evening air, adding to the magical atmosphere of the imposing 900-year old temple. A group of dancers took to the stage performing a selection of dances ranging from the traditional Cambodian Apsara to more contemporary Chinese fare. The whole programme lasted less than two hours on the evening of 8 April but left the thousands who had come to Angkor to witness this rare event spellbound.

On the opening night, Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hor Namhong said that the aim of the event was to promote public awareness and strengthen the bonds of friendship between ASEAN and China. Chinese Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Dawei described the event as a historical milestone in the ASEAN-China dialogue cooperation.

This special joint ASEAN-China Cultural Performance was held to commemorate the Fifteen Anniversary Dialogue Relationship between ASEAN and China. It is part of a series of activities to celebrate the  anniversary in ASEAN Member Countries and China throughout the year.
