Visit by H.E. Mr. Soegeng Rahardjo, Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia

On the afternoon of October 27, 2017, H.E. Mr. Soegeng Rahardjo, Indonesian Ambassador to China and Mongolia, delivered a speech entitled "The Opportunities and Challenges Facing the Economic Transformation and Upgrading of Indonesia: Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation" at the Nan An building of Xiamen University.

Dean Li Yiping moderated the speech. Ambassador H.E. Mr. Soegeng Rahardjo recalled his first public speech in 2014 at Research School for Southeast Asian Studies, Xiamen University. He was very happy to come to Xiamen to again three years later, and expressed the trust of being an old friend of Research School for Southeast Asian Studies and the expectation of the speech.

First of all, the ambassador reviewed several meetings between President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Keqiang and Indonesian President Joko Widodo in the past four years. He pointed out that China and Indonesia continued to deepen bilateral economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative. His speech covered these topics, such as the growth of GDP, FDI growth, the change of sovereign rating, the change of investment environment and the development of tourism industry from 2014 to 2017 in Indonesia. The ambassador proposed that the infrastructure construction in Indonesia had made great progress due to President Joko’s good leadership and much FDI. A large number of power stations, highways and railways, economic development zones and ports had been put into use, which laid a good foundation for Indonesia's economic development. Finally, the Ambassador analyzed the prospects and challenges of China-Indonesia economic cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
