Lecture: “Environmental History and Southeast Asian Studies” by Professor Bao Maohong from Beijing University

On December 26, 2016, Professor Bao Maohong, Dean of the History Department of Peking University and Director of the Southeast Asia Research Center of Peking University, delivered a lecture on “environmental history and Southeast Asia Research” at Research School for Southeast Asian Studies/School of International Relations (hereafter “the School”) of Xiamen University. Professor Bao Maohong’s research focuses on international environmental history, and has closed contacts in international academic circle. He is one of the leading scholars in the study of the environmental history in China.

Professor Bao Maohong’s lecture consisted of three parts, including the concept and research content of the history of the environment, the overview and the academic frontier of the environmental history of Southeast Asia, the Southeast Asia Institute of Kyoto University in Japan and its contents and characteristics of the study of the environmental history of Southeast Asia. Professor Bao Maohong focused on the Southeast Asian Studies of the Kyoto University in Japan, especially the research on the environmental history of Southeast Asia in the Kyoto University, and summarized the characteristics and world influence of Japan's Southeast Asian studies.

In this lecture on the history of environmental history and Southeast Asia, Professor Bao Maohong made a new way to put environmental history in the global history threshold and brought a new and broad research field, research vision and research methods, especially the philosophical thought, research path and research method of the Kyoto School in Southeast Asia
